Hello and happy reading season!
Remember those library reading programs where kids record their reading hours and then turn in time for prizes? I (of course) loved the reading but kind of hated the time-tracking part. Just let me read! I wanna get immersed in the story!
I still have no use for timing my reading, but I have been paying attention to the times that make the most sense for specific books. This month, I’m sharing the books I brought on a handful of trips over the last few months. I hope it gets you thinking about your own book & place pairings.
Sincerely,
Tenley Schwartz

Up In The Air
At the end of October, I got to travel for a work conference. I brought a borrowed copy of The Scent of Time, which ended up being the perfect thing to read on an airplane. Here’s what struck me as I was suspended in the air between 2 places:
My unintended result? Well, when I stopped trying to distract myself, it became apparent that I’m living in a between-time. The shed’s worth of tools strewn about aren’t going to renovate my house all on their own. And suddenly, I know:
The only way to the next place is through. There’s no skipping steps or fast-forwarding time. But I am reminded how good the between can be.
Right Place, Right Time
Here are the stories of a few trips and a few books from this year:
I took a 2-night vacation to Omaha (most Midwestern vacation ever?) the week before my work trip:
And, of course, Tampa traveling:
Blast from the Past
I was scrolling back on past Instagram posts, and this one from 2018 cracked me up. The title on that book!! Philosophy of Time?!
Totally a throwaway: me saying “What’s the most pretentious-sounding book title I can make up?” Well, I’ve played myself, because I’ve read not one but TWO books on the philosophy of time recently. (More recommendations welcome, obviously).
What are you reading these days? And what do you tote along on trips? I’d love to know!
